Adductor pollicis muscle thickness in Brazilian adolescents and associations with nutritional status, sexual maturation and physical activity (EVA-JF Study)

Objective: The present study aims to assess the associations of adductor pollicis muscle thickness (APMT) with age, skin color, sexual maturation, anthropometric indicators and physical activity in Brazilian adolescents. Materials methods: Cross-sectional adolescents aged 14-19 years. Weight, height, body mass index (BMI), arm circumference (AC), APMT, fat, fat-free (FFM), (FFMI), time color were evaluated. APMT was associated categorical variables using Mann-Whitney or Kruskal-Wallis tests correlated Spearman’s correlation. Linear regression used as a dependent other predictors. Data analysis carried out SPSS® software (version 17.0) 5% significance level. Results: 828 evaluated, 57.6% female, mean age 16.13 ± 1.20 had an average value 18.0 mm females 21.0 males. measure greater males, more advanced stages overweight activity. It presented moderate correlation FFM, FFMI, fat AC. In final model multiple linear for females, AC explain 20.1% variability. For men, FFMI 30.5% Conclusion: is recommended that be complementary manner nutritional assessment
